Sophie Cymone Bolla is a multi-media artist, and art educator living in Chicago, Illinois. She is currently at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago working towards her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Concentration in Art Education along with her Illinois Teaching License for Visual Arts K-12. Her passion for technology and nostalgia have led her to an artistic practice that embeds itself in a research context of these topics. She uses an array of mediums to convey the way in which she grapples with how affective data is archived in contemporary systems of knowledge and attempts to challenge them through her work. She has been in 7 groups shows and was an Artist in Resident at the Swarm Artist Residency in the summer of 2017. Most recently she merged the conceptual passions she has in her own artistic practice with the visual arts classroom by teaching and presenting her fieldwork lesson Abstracting the Mundane Lane Tech College Prep. at the Illinois Art Education Association Conference in the winter of 2017. Sophie has been in various art education centric positions for the past three years and sees the visual arts classroom as a space to cultivate mini-communities through exposing how the self-reflexive problem solving skills we learn through art creation can be applied to various other systems of creation/implementation.
