Sophie Cymone Bolla is a multi-media artist, and art educator living in Chicago, Illinois. She is currently at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago working towards her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Concentration in Art Education. Her passion for technology, science, and math have led her to an artistic practice that embeds itself in a research context of these topics. She uses an array of mediums to convey the way in which she grapples with how affective data is archived in academic systems of knowledge and attempts to challenge it through her work. She has been in 5 groups shows and has most recently been accepted as an Artist in Resident at the Swarm Artist Residency in 2017. Sophie channels her other passions for education and mental health into her current position as a Project FIRE (Fearless Initiative for Recovery and Empowerment) Administrative Intern for ArtReach Chicago where she works supporting youth who have been susceptible to gun violence through psychoeducation, art education, and professional skill training. Sophie has been in various teaching positions for three years and sees the classroom as a space to cultivate mini-communities through exposing how the self-reflexive problem solving skills we learn through art creation can be applied to various other systems of creation/implementation.
